The TreadRight Foundation

Created as a joint initiative between The Travel Corporation’s family of brands, the TreadRight Foundation is a not-for-profit working to ensure the environment and communities we visit remain vibrant for generations to come. To date, TreadRight has supported 40 sustainable tourism projects worldwide. The Foundation’s guiding principle is to encourage sustainable tourism development through conservation, leadership and support for communities. Foundation priorities are set by the Steering Committee, which includes sustainability leaders like Céline Cousteau and Costas Christ. TreadRight’s past project partners include WWF, Conservation International and The National Trust in the UK. Current initiatives include sponsoring the National Geographic Society’s inaugural “World Legacy Awards,” and inspiring wildlife advocates like Terri Irwin.

It’s 2017, to celebrate the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the Travel Corporation (TTC) and United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) are encouraging you to take action and travel better. The Travel Corporation’s sustainability foundation names environmentalist and filmmaker Céline Cousteau as its first ever TreadRight Ambassador. A leading environmentalist, adventurer and explorer, Céline Cousteau is the ideal ambassador, one who truly embodies the TreadRight philosophy. As a documentary filmmaker and gifted storyteller, Cousteau has travelled the world working to help amplify the voices of the amazing individuals who are working to protect ecosystems, wildlife and people.

The TreadRight Wildlife Initiative, delivered in partnership with leading wildlife organizations WildAid, Wilderness Foundation Africa and Wildlife SOS - India - is dedicated to helping ensure our planet’s most at risk wildlife populations are protected.

Wilderness Foundation

The Wilderness Foundation SA, another TreadRight program supported by African Travel, is dedicated to protecting South Africa’s endangered rhino. Its multi-pronged approach includes funding anti-poaching efforts and pressuring political leaders into combating the illegal trade in rhino horn. Supporting wildlife crime countermeasures through its Wildlife Operations Group, the foundation has helped fund the purchase of an aircraft used to track and catch poachers.

We support their crucial mission to end the demand for illegal wildlife products. Its intensive initiative focus on protecting elephants, rhinos, tigers, sharks, mantas and other marine life across the globe.
